Rev. Mark McCalla, a caring husband, father, son, brother, minister, and friend, died on June 19, 2008. He was 48 and lived in Huntington, WV.
Born to his proud parents on April 8, 1960 in Columbus, OH, Mark spent his early years in the area as a member of the Whetstone High School, Class of ’78, and a graduate of The Ohio State University. He eventually continued his education by attending the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and met Pamela, his wife. Mark was ordained as a minister of the Presbyterian Church in July 1994.
Mark’s kindred spirit and gifts of humor and compassion graced congregations in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia. Until his death he was the pastor of Highlawn Presbyterian Church in Huntington, WV.
He was natural adventurist and outdoors’ enthusiast who embraced nature for its beauty and the platforms it provided him to exercise his hobbies. Mark was an advanced cyclist, competing at the professional levels for a number of years in the 80’s, and also enjoyed camping, hiking, kayaking, and rafting. He had a contagious passion for sharing the humor of life with those around him and was a friend to people and animals alike.
Mark is survived by is wife Pamela, sons Benjamin, and Samuel, stepchildren Alan Eargle (Winona) of Lexington, and Lauren Eargle; his parents Paul A. and Charlotte L. McCalla, of Columbus, OH; sisters Melinda Vasila (Thomas), of Columbus, and Jodie Huge (Terry) of Cincinnati, OH; along with many other close family members and friends.
